Special features of the organization

AROHA is an NGO founded with a vision to help rural, tribal and under privileged urban women, in their endeavour of sustainable livelihood. , Founder members Vishakha Rao-Jathar and Sharmistha Gandhi are experts in conceptualising and execution of comprehensive livelihood programmes , AROHAs Initiatives in Vidarbha , AROHA believes that with the economic independence, women start gaining self confidence, attain respect in the family and society and start participating in the decision making process. , Till date around 14000 women from Vidharbha have participated in the capacity building programmes conducted by AROHA. , , Activities and the the Impact , , Economic and Social Empowerment of Women. AROHA has mobilised 3000 rural poor women to participate in the Self Help Groups. An intervention of AROHA has developed their capacity to become self reliant for their social and economic development. , Cluster Development of microenterprises of Women , , ARANYAK hand pounded rice cluster at dist. Gadchiroli. Here 50 tribal women were motivated to make and sale the handpounded rice. Role of AROHA was to standardise the product, train these women in quality control, branding and packaging of the product as Arranyak rice and link them to the Market. , , WARDHINI Multiproduct cluster at Wardha district , District Rural Development Agency, Wardha invited AROHA to work with the rural BPL women for the development of the cluster in food processing. During the year 2009-2012, products based on the local resources were identified and standardised, trainings were designed, imparted to women from all the blocks of Wardha district. Products were branded and packaged as Wardhini. Six hundred SHG women members of 50 SHGs started their home based production. , RANGRESHA Fabric product cluster- Nagpur district supported by NABARD , AROHA has developed unique cluster of fabric based handicraft products. 300 women have participated in this cluster and have raised to the level of artisans from the zero skill level in the trades of hand-embroidery, stitching, ariwork and hand printing. , , Skills Training , , AROHAs Vocational Training initiative started in year 2004 with Rural entrepreneurship development programmes in various trades based on the natural resources, covering the 400 beneficiaries from rural areas of Vidarbha. 70 pc of them have started working. , , Uddyam vocational training centre was started in the year 2011 to train the rural underprivileged women in this area. Most of the participants are out of school due to the early marriage and have no hard skills to make a living out of it. After completion of training, some of them are employed by the garment factories and some are working independently. With their supplementary incomes, they are able to improve the standard of living of their families to the great extent. Till date 2250 women are trained in these centers. Around 63 percent of women are earning members of the family now. , , Hirwai - is the environment awareness programme of AROHA. Since year 2009, competition for tree plantation and protection is conducted for school children in association with Raman Science centre.
