Senior Manager-Society for Labour and Development

Support and office management

Senior managers plan and direct a group of individuals within an organization or department. The role of a senior manager is to supervise those individuals to ensure that business operations are running efficiently and that each individual's performance meets company and industry standards.

Primary Responsibilities include

Programme Implementation

  • Work closely with the programmes team to prepare a Strategic Action Plan (SAP) for Labor rights work in the garment and leather industries in Delhi-NCR, Kanpur, and Ludhiana
  • Coordinate with the programmes team to prepare modules, conduct trainings to develop the capacity of migrant workers in the community on their rights and entitlements
  • Ensure appropriate measurement of financial, programmatic, and impact performance against stated milestones and goals of projects
  • Support team with strategy development and execution of project deliverables, lead project planning, budgeting, action plans and monitor processes and outcomes
  • Prepare monthly narrative and financial report in consultation with the Executive Director and the Finance team in SLD.
  • Travel in the field, develop deep understanding of grassroots issues, guide the team during the project term
  • Prepare work plan with the team and make efforts to achieve it in consultation with the Executive Director.
  • Provide ongoing monitoring of the status of programs and complete regular check-ins on grant requirements.
     

Networking & Documentation

  • Establish and revive linkages with Worker Welfare Associations and collaborate with Labor partners and industries in North India
  • Prepare evidence-based case documentation in cases of labor and human rights violations in consultation with project teams
  • Build relationships with workers collectives in the field and facilitate their capacity building in the field of gender and labor rights
  • Effective stakeholder management-Mapping and managing primary stakeholders and institutions in the global value chains
  • Exercise collaborative efforts with other civil society organizations, NGOs, businesses, institutions and governments to develop and expand services that benefit our beneficiaries and the community
  • Work closely with the Management to prepare periodic progress reports based on accurate and evidence-based data/information to enhance quality of reporting
  • Conduct and prepare Labor rights and industry level reports in garments and leather industries
  • Guide programmes team to identify and document human interest stories and case studies based on the successes of implemented projects

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

  • Excellent writing and communication skills. Experience in preparing and presenting oral and written briefings.
  • Effective problem-solving skills and demonstrated creativity, and adaptability 
  • Established capability to handle individuals or groups from numerous levels and backgrounds.
  • 3-5 years’ experience of program designing and implementation in the field of labour or migrant rights.
  • A strong orientation towards strategic outcomes and multi-disciplinary strategies is essential and a background in monitoring and evaluation is a plus.
  • Strong conceptual and analytical thinking and ability to distill and communicate complex ideas orally and in writing, to a variety of audiences. Knowledge of sustainability and supply chain management is a must
  • Proven knowledge and experience in developing and implementing community mobilization projects and managing small to mid-size teams
  • Data collection and collation skills, processing, analysis and report writing
  • Relevant regional experience preferred
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, to remain flexible to a changing environment, and to make decisions independently
  • Ability to work well with a cross-cultural team
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written with proficiency in English and Hindi
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Office Project.
  • Available for domestic travel across project locations (40%)

 

Other Information:

 

  • Support team’s adherence to internal policies and Program management standards.
  • Support and Supervise work of field organizers/coordinators; develop field-level strategies to effectively respond to workers’ grievances
  • Participate in the interview process for new staff, providing contextual information on programs and realities of the position, and selection for key positions as identified with the recruiting manager.
  • Overall responsibility for Grant sourcing with the assistance of Program Managers/Officers
  • Any other tasks as assigned by the organization
