About Job Profile

Research and Field Work

Functioning somewhat independently, incumbent assists with and conducts laboratory experiments on research projects within well-defined guidelines; keeps abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within area of research; collects, prepares, and analyzes specimens (or animal subjects); evaluates results of (or response to) process; summarizes data; may provide supervision and guidance to junior level technicians.

Performs a variety of assays, tests, and studies of a routine nature.

Performs calculations to complete research test results; collates data; performs statistical analysis of lab results and maintain notes and log or computer database; performs basic procedures for computer assisted data analysis.

Primary Responsibilities include

- Contribute to Young Lives research, analysis and writing proposals.

- Carry out literature review.

- Develop survey tools and conduct data analysis for tool validation.

- Prepare questionnaires and survey manuals.

- Set up data quality checks and quality assurance for quantitative data collection.

- Write summary reports and maintain clear documentation of survey process

- Conduct analysis of data using appropriate econometric and statistical models and techniques to address specific research questions.

- Communicate regularly with field research team.

- Write summary and analytical reports/ working and journal papers, policy briefs etc

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- Sound knowledge of statistics, econometrics and research methodology.

- Excellent analytical and statistical skills, including experience of using Stata and analysing large data sets such as NFHS, NSSO, etc.

- Experience in developing and conducting surveys will be essential.

- High level writing and communication skills and ability to produce reports and other research outputs in English.

- Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills and preferably experience of working in multidisciplinary teams.

- Good personal organisational skills with experience of managing a varied and heavy workload.

Young Lives started off as a research study coordinated by the University of Oxford. Following 12,000 children over 15 years in four developing countries –Ethiopia, India, Peru and Vietnam and this longitudinal mixed method studyon childhood poverty has gained global reputation for its rigour and impact.

In India, the longitudinal study has followed 3000 children since 2002 and hascollected data across various the matic areas such as nutrition, health,education, household poverty, migration, transitions to labour market, life-skillsto generate policy related evidence.

Young Lives India has expanded the scope of its work beyond the longitudinal study and established two additional centres i.e. the research to policy centreand the monitoring, evaluation and evidence centre which work closely withthe Government of India, State government and commissions, UN agencies as well as other multilateral and bilateral agencies.
