Project Management/Coordination

The Program Director is responsible for developing a large-scale reforestation and agroforestry project in Meghalaya, India and advancing strategy, including advising colleagues on reforestation best practices; and developing and helping to execute landscape reforestation plans in partnership with local communities; federal, state and local governments, and nongovernmental organisations with an emphasis on building a diverse and inclusive coalition vision.
 
The Program Director provides leadership on tree planting and agroforestry projects and will work collaboratively to maximise the positive impact on the planet and people. You will ensure the primary obstacles to farmers and local community implementation are effectively mitigated, that projects benefit community wellbeing and truly deliver climate benefits (i.e., additionality) as well as biodiversity and social benefits.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in community-based project development, horticulture operations, carbon forestry development and management, ecosystem services, project management, as well as a strong background in organisational management and virtual team leadership. One of your main tasks will be to plan, structure and manage People, process and information flows. You will also oversee risk management, quality assurance and safety.
 
The Program Director will be involved in strategic planning, partnership development, capacity building, project management, stakeholder engagement, team leadership, and knowledge management. This role will work closely with the management team to run the project. The Director will oversee project managers, who coordinate teams to ensure that work is completed on time and within budget, to a high standard.

S/he will provider leadership to strategically manage risk, monitor finances and ensure each phase of work is started or completed on time. We welcome applications from civil and mechatronics engineers with the required skills sets in program management linked to large scale machinery and landscape planning and operations with active program management experience.

Primary Responsibilities include

 

  •     Lead and scale a new tree planting project in Meghalaya, India including contract management, technical implementation, risk management, and communications.
  •     Develop from scratch processes to optimise workflow, communication and reporting across the different teams.  
  •     Supervise the development of an agroforestry project, including providing technical support and advising on project design, assessing the feasibility of projects, developing and reviewing Project Design Documents, and the validation and ongoing verification of projects within the Meghalaya region.
  •     Develop and implement strategic plans including goals, objectives and performance metrics in alignment with project objectives.
  •     Oversee the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluations aspects of the project.
  •     Implement and coordinate the process to build infrastructures to process and sell agro-commodities.
  •     Establish and maintain strong partnerships with government, civil society organisations, research institutions and other key stakeholders. Liaise and build relationships with NGOs and project owners, such as reforestation companies or NGOs, nurseries, farmers and other landholders to create working relationships to develop tree planting and agroforestry projects in Meghalaya.
  •     Ensure program compliance with internal policies and external requirements
  •     Manage and oversee project activities, ensuring that they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  •     Provide timely and accurate reports to the CEO and stakeholders.
  •     Monitor project progress and identify areas for improvement, making recommendations for adjustments as needed.
  •     Oversee staffing processes including hiring, onboarding, and payroll. Ensure effective staff performance review systems.
  •     Ensure effective communication through appropriate stakeholder engagement.
  •     Provide leadership, mentorship and guidance to the project team.
  •     Develop and implement knowledge capture, sharing and utilisation strategies.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

  •     Experience working in the supply chain of agro commodities.
  •     Experience working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders, carbon registries, governments and NGOs.
  •     Knowledge of measuring and demonstrating the impact of carbon projects in line with external benchmarking such as SDGs, SBTs, NBS.
  •     Experience of working internationally in varied cultures and countries, or in different regions in India.
  •     Previous experience in or good knowledge of Meghalaya landscape and culture.
  •     Experience designing and presenting strategies, plans, processes, metrics, and information in a clear and comprehensible manner.
  •     Ability to remain calm and focused in stressful or complex situations.
  •     Good knowledge of data analysis and key performance indicators.
  •     Experience working with virtual teams in fast growing companies.
