This is a fantastic opportunity to join a fast paced and dynamic team in a critical decade for global action on the energy transition needed to move away from fossil fuels and towards clean growth.
The purpose of your job will be to support the UK government’s strong partnership with India on the power sector and renewable energy, specifically on the power sector reforms such as smart meter roll out, strengthening of the distribution infrastructure and transitioning to renewable energy. As India intends to add increased non-fossil capacity of 500 GW by 2030, it plans to transform its power sector through several initiatives such as the Revamped Reforms based and Results Linked Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) for supporting distribution companies (DISCOMs) to undertake large scale reforms in the distribution sector and has a strong focus on industrial decarbonisation.
Our key programmes with India help to provide policy and implementation support to Ministry of Power and Ministry of New and Renewable Energy for the successful delivery of these reforms. With the British High Commission, you will get the opportunity to work with key stakeholders in the UK and India on smart power and renewable energy priority issues.
First, provide support to the design and coordination of the delivery of work packages under the ongoing Power Sector Reform (PSR) and Accelerating Smart Power and Renewable Energy in India (ASPIRE) programmes for smart power, energy efficiency and just transition. ASPIRE is a UK India joint bilateral programme with focus on smart power and renewable energy. The Power Sector Reforms programme is also a technical assistance programme with focus on power markets and grid integration. You will work with the Senior Advisor on Smart Power, working closely with the wider Climate & Energy team and others across HMG and Government of India to deliver the above-mentioned programmes. You will need strong coordination skills to help shape this work.
Second, provide support on the UK’s policy engagement in India and other HMG programmes on smart power, renewable energy, just transition and green finance. You will help maintain excellent relationships with HMG colleagues as well as key Indian government agencies such as Ministry of Power, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, public sector undertakings such as Power Finance Corporation (PFC), Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and work with state level utilities as required. You will also support the delivery of the UK-India Energy Dialogue and the Joint Working Groups.
Third, co-ordinate and provide support to high level visits of UK delegation to India and Indian delegation to UK. You will need strong collaboration, coordination, and written communication skills for this.
