Support and office management

The Design officer of the Global Strategic Planning and Reporting Centre is responsible for the professional final layout of all external versions of the plans and reports produced by the hub. The layout follows IFRC corporate visual identity guidelines and ensures visually appealing products. Layout is coherent in structure across the plans and reports to ease their use, and ensures key information is featured prominently.

Primary Responsibilities include

Production of the external versions of the plans and reports

  •     Liaise with the Global Strategic Planning and Reporting Centre Lead to determine requirements and milestones for the layout of plans and reports
  •     Analyse plans and reports and generate visually appealing solutions to better convey the content of plans and reports
  •     Adjust layout and style of plans and reports to meet the standards set by the IFRC
  •     Develop user-friendly Word and Powerpoint templates that can be used by delegations and regional offices to produce attractive documents that meet IFRC style Develop concepts, graphics and layouts, including making decisions about fonts, images, readability and readers’ needs
  •     Manage the layout process from typesetting through to graphic design and production
  •     Determine size and arrangement of copy and illustrative material, as well as font style and size
  •     Prepare rough drafts of material based on an agreed brief
  •     Keep the Global Strategic Planning and Reporting Centre Lead up to date, listening to and acting on feedback, and explaining the rationale behind graphic design decisions
  •     Rata-contrast="auto">eview final layouts and suggesting improvements if required

Evolutions of the layout and design

  •     Keep up to date with design and software trends
  •     Keep up to date with trends in donors’ communication styles from other humanitarian and development organisations
  •     Work with the Global Strategic Planning and Reporting Centre Lead, and Geneva Partnerships and Resource Development, Strategic Planning and Communications teams to explore ideas, manage expectations and explore evolutions of the layout
  •     Assist in the evolution of the products, ways of relaying content, and ways of matching donors needs

Teamwork

  •     Work as part of the Global Strategic Planning and Reporting Centre team, understand and show interest for the work of the reporting officers and the nature of the IFRC network action
  •     Show flexibility for multiple adjustments and changes to the layout upon request of the Global Strategic Planning and Reporting Centre Lead and according to decisions taken in Geneva
  •     Be ready to process edits requested by delegations rapidly, in order to ensure replacements of published plans and reports containing errors or information found sensitive

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

  •     Advanced technical competence in layout software
  •     Advanced skills in computer softwares (Windows, word processing, powerpoint, spreadsheets)
  •     Able to work independently and as part of the team
  •     Ability to work in a multicultural environment
  •     Demonstrated focus on quality and standards
  •     Creative ability to produce high level design
  •     Documentation preparation/presentation and computer-based production skills
  •     Fluently spoken and written English
  •     Good command of another IFRC official language (French, Spanish or Arabic)
