About Job Profile

Project Management/Coordination

The Advisor air Quality scientist will work on all our Hyperlocal Monitoring projects and will provide technical expertise on emission inventory and air quality modelling. The ideal candidate should have a master’s or PhD, with knowledge of science of air pollution. They should have a few years’ experience in air quality modelling, emission inventory and data analysis.
 

Primary Responsibilities include

 

  • Analyses air quality data and interprets results, runs data visualization using Excel, and other graphing systems like Origin 
  • Assists project manager and technical partners on air quality modelling work, and runs air quality models 
  • Assists in installation of sensors and data collection 
  • Lead on primary data collection for emission inventory. Maintains databases of all maps, emission inventory surveys, and site visits 
  • Creates GIS maps for study locations and maintains proper databases for local air quality, meteorology, and pollutant concentration in each study location.  
  • Ensures all collected data passes QA/QC standards. Carries out data analysis using tools like R, Python, and/or SPSS.  
  • Responsible for independent research reports using primary and secondary data and communicates research data to a wider audience in a lucid fashion 
  • Collates professional and/or technical information in memos, business letters, reports, and other written material as required by the professional area. Communicates effectively orally and in writing with co-workers and internal staff elsewhere at Arthan. Able to address inquiries. 
  • Makes decisions regarding day-to-day priorities and work activities within context of project manager providing general timeline and work assignments.  
  • Applies technical standards, professional judgment, and past precedents in making decisions. Interprets guidelines, protocols, policies and procedures and carries out research and analysis – using primary and secondary data. 
  • Documents and reports all work to project manager  
  • Participates in advancing Arthan DEI goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with Arthan values

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

  • Working knowledge of air quality modelling, models like WRF CAM, Aermod, etc.  
  • Experience in air quality monitoring techniques, including manual and CAAQMS monitoring. Familiarity with the use and deployment of low-cost sensors for monitoring; economics and policy aspects of low-cost sensors; use of low-cost sensors for trend analysis 
  • Ability to understand the functioning, calibration, and data credibility while working with LCS 
  • Knowledge of chemical analysis, emissions inventory and source apportionment studies, with preferable field and lab experience 
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools like R, Python, and/or SPSS. Data Analysis and visualization using Excel, and other graphing systems like Origin 
  • Well versed in Q-GIS and ArcGIS, and can create GIS maps for survey locations? 
  • Ability to process large volume of data, carry out quality checks, identify possible data gaps and anomalies 
  • Full proficiency of MS Office Suite 
  • Experience in writing scientific reports, briefs, and papers.  
  • Well versed in air quality issues in India, NCAP, Clean Air Action Plans, Air pollution standards, transboundary pollution etc. 
  • Experience and knowledge in interpreting satellite data will be added advantage 
  • Good communication skills (both written and oral), in English and one more Indian language 
  • Demonstrates self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds
