The candidate we are looking for will be responsible for providing technical guidance and leadership in the overall planning, design, installation, and maintenance of the engineering phases of agro-forestry planting, soil and water conservation practices and presentation of fires.The ideal candidate should  have a proven track record in supporting afforestation and land management works, designing access roads, firelines, and afforestation designs on steep slopes with significant rainfall geographies.

The roads will be used by farm machineries for carrying out project activities such as plantation, agro-commodity collection, processing, harvesting. You will collect information about the area, determine exactly where the road should go, design and develop the road construction contract.

Primary Responsibilities include

 

  •    Supervise planning, design and construction of engineering practices related to planting agro-forestry, water and land management, grazing management, erosion control, flood control, land restoration, and other conservation practices needing engineering guidance.
  •     Interpret plans and specifications for contractors, solving problems at local level as to proper interpretation of specifications.
  •     Serve as the contact point for the administration of construction contracts.
  •     Make site investigations and feasibility studies; field checks designs as needed.
  •     Prepare or review field designs and preliminary and final drawings and specifications on engineering practices.
  •     Perform supervisory responsibilities by providing technical and administrative direction to project staff.
  •     Write reports about possible locations for roads, trees, and structures.
  •     Use field information to design roads, including drain systems, road base, and road surface design (designs are done using computers).
  •     Supports project managers, engineers, land surveyors, and survey/design teams using Autodesk Civil 3D and/or similar software platforms.
  •     Produces technical engineering reports with photos, figures, engineering calculations, applicable references, and relevant supporting documentation.
  •     Obtains federal, state, and local project approvals and permits.
  •     Develop project scoping documents, budgets, and schedules.
  •     Coordinates with other team members to ensure schedules, budgets, quality, and project requirements are achieved.
  •     Produces drawings, layouts, sketches, maps, and graphic representations of engineering designs.
  •     Go into the area to investigate existing conditions.
  •     Monitor contracted construction crews to make sure plans are being followed, and solve problems that arise.
  •     Make sure construction safety regulations are being followed.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

 

  •     Master’s in Environmental Engineering is a plus.
  •     Knowledge of the local language Khasi / Jaintia.
  •     Experience of communicating to a diverse range of audiences.
  •     Ability to remain calm and focused in stressful or complex situations.
  •     Possesses a strong initiative to solve problems, develop creative solutions, learn new methods and techniques, and seek out answers to simple and complex questions.

Other Information:

  • A valid drivers licence as well as an acceptable driving record.
  • Excellent internal (within organisation and team) and external (with government and private stakeholders) communication skills in English.
  • Willingness to interact with communities and visit steep, rugged terrain to investigate existing conditions and design the most efficient roads and trees planting project taking into consideration the water management.
  • Experience using Excel or Google spreadsheet.
  • Ability to guide fabrication of designs to meet landscape specific needs as desired.
  • In-depth knowledge of Environmental Regulations/Guidelines.
  • Working knowledge of Environmental, Health and Social Impact Assessment.
  • Working knowledge of attaining clearances as needed according to state and central regulations.
