Seerla Venkata Priyanka's journey as a volunteer teacher with eVidyaloka is one of passion and commitment. Holding a Master's degree in Chemical Engineering from SV University, Tirupati, Priyanka could have easily pursued a conventional career in her field. However, her deep passion for education led her to make a bold choice—dedicating her time and energy to empowering rural children. Over the past six years, she has become a catalyst for change, revolutionizing how students in underserved communities learn, engage, and aspire for a better future.
As a volunteer with eVidyaloka, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to bridging the educational gap in rural India, Priyanka has transformed countless learning experiences. She firmly believes that teaching is a two-way process—one where both teacher and student grow together. This belief has shaped her innovative approach to education, where she goes beyond textbooks to make learning practical and inspiring.
At ZPHS Mallela, a rural government school in Andhra Pradesh, where she teaches 8th-grade Science, Priyanka brings ordinary household items into the classroom to create experiments that spark curiosity. For Priyanka, science is about connecting students to their environment. She uses everyday resources to make learning not only easier but more meaningful. Her students have created models of drip irrigation systems to understand water conservation, demonstrated pressure mechanics using potatoes and straws, and explored the laws of energy and forces using basic household items. In a classroom setting where lab equipment is often out of reach, her hands-on approach ensures that students understand scientific concepts while also seeing their relevance in daily life. The classroom is alive with excitement and creativity as students apply their knowledge to real-world challenges.
In rural areas, learning English is often seen as a major obstacle that limits access to better opportunities. Priyanka addresses this challenge head-on at MPUPS K.M. Vari Banjara government School in Telangana. Through creative teaching methods, she has helped her students gain confidence in speaking English. She uses techniques like Word and Sentence Antakshari, where vocabulary-building becomes an interactive game, and picture-based comprehension exercises to foster storytelling and sentence formation. This playful yet structured approach has allowed her students to overcome their fear of English, turning it from an intimidating subject into a language of expression.
Priyanka’s impact extends beyond academics. She plays an active role in co-scholastic programs such as the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS), where two of her students have received government scholarships, and the National Student Innovation Challenge (NSIC), which encourages students to develop innovative solutions to real-world problems. Priyanka's mentorship is focused not only on preparing students for exams but on equipping them with the skills, curiosity, and critical thinking abilities that will serve them throughout their lives.
Beyond her work with eVidyaloka, Priyanka has also foundedMudra - Imprint, an NGO that works with government schools to expand learning beyond traditional subjects. Through Mudra, she provides a range of services, including Vedic math lessons to simplify complex calculations, creative arts to encourage self-expression, first-aid training to teach life-saving skills, career guidance to help students envision a future beyond their villages, and financial support for deserving students to ensure that education remains accessible. Mudra is not just about teaching—it is about empowering rural children with the knowledge, confidence, and opportunities they need to succeed.
Priyanka’s work is deeply connected with eVidyaloka, a pioneering organization that has been transforming education in rural India since 2011. Founded by former Microsoft colleagues Satish and Venkat, eVidyaloka uses technology and a vast network of volunteers to deliver quality education to remote areas. In the last academic year, with over 6,000 passionate volunteers from more than 40 countries, eVidyaloka has impacted 734 schools across 14 states and 67 districts. The organization’s lessons are delivered in eight regional languages, making education accessible to a wide audience. Through the Teach through Television (TTT) program, eVidyaloka has reached 3 crore students across 10 states and 256 districts, ensuring that children in even the most remote villages receive the same quality of education as those in urban schools.
