NHPC along with its subsidiary pledges to contribute Rs 50 crore to PM CARES Fund

New Delhi, 1 April 2020: The outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic in India and across the world is a matter of great concern for the entire human race. NHPC Limited, India’s premier hydropower company with its subsidiary NHDC, pledged to support the nation and has contributed Rs 50 crore from its CSR fund of FY 2019-20 and FY 2020-21 to the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM CARES Fund) set up by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to combat Coronavirus.

AK Singh, CMD, NHPC said, "Our contribution of Rs 50 crore to the PM CARES Fund is another step in our support in the fight against Covid-19 crisis. NHPC and NHDC continue to maintain power generation across their power stations 24 x 7 and shall help in all possible manners in this current moment of crisis."

In addition, NHPC is committed to improve Health Sector/ Medical Facilities in the assigned aspirational districts, Chamba in Himachal Pradesh and Baramulla in J&K, under Corporate Social Responsibility. In this regard, NHPC has also recently released Rs 9 Crore and Rs 1.75 Crore to District Administration, Chamba and Baramulla respectively for purchase of medical equipments for Government Hospitals.

Earlier, Minister for State (IC) for Power, New & Renewable Energy and Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, RK Singh, had shared that the Public Sector Undertakings of the Ministries of Power & MNRE shall contribute a total amount of Rs 925 crore to the PM CARES Fund.

India has been under a strict lockdown since March 22 in order to stop the Corona virus infection spread.
