Fostering Inclusion: Covestro's Commitment to Empowering Women and Youth
As we celebrate International Women's Day under the theme of "Inspiring Inclusion," Covestro reaffirms its dedication to women's empowerment as a cornerstone of sustainable development. Our initiatives range from internal programs aimed at providing growth opportunities for women within our organization to external CSR efforts focused on empowering girls and women from marginalized backgrounds to pursue education and meaningful livelihoods.
As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility efforts, Covestro (India) champions programs that epitomize our dedication to inclusivity like Manobal by Deepstambh Foundation, Katalyst by Third Sector Partners (TSP), and Saksham by United Way Mumbai (UWM).
- Katalyst India, led by Third Sector Partners (TSP), is a distinguished NGO dedicated to fostering the economic empowerment of women. This initiative focuses on grooming young women for leadership positions, thereby expanding the talent pool for Indian industries and narrowing the gender gap. Through a comprehensive approach encompassing a rigorous curriculum, hands-on experiences, mentorship, internships, and financial aid, Katalyst empowers these individuals with the necessary skills and self-assurance to embark on successful career paths and assume leadership roles. Covestro (India) takes pride in its support of 25 female students from various cities across the country through this initiative. Out of the 25 female students, 14 secured positions in multinational corporations (MNCs).
- Project Manobal, an initiative by Deepstambh Foundation further underscores our dedication to providing equal opportunities for all. This national-level residential training centre at Jalgaon and Pune caters to youth from underprivileged backgrounds, including those with disabilities, orphans, transgenders, and individuals from tribal, rural, or urban areas. By offering lodging, boarding, cultural activities, movement training, and counselling support, Project Manobal empowers these young individuals to pursue higher education and competitive exams. Covestro has provided comprehensive assistance to over 350 students with disabilities, orphans, tribal backgrounds, and transgender individuals. Among them, 23 students appeared for UPS exams and 160 for MPSC exams. Additionally, enhanced amenities have been implemented at the Jalgaon residential campus to ensure accessibility and improved living conditions.
- Project Saksham by United Way Mumbai (UWM) focuses on encouraging women to embark on the entrepreneurial journey. Through access to resources, comprehensive training, and mentorship, Saksham empowers women to start or grow their own businesses, fostering economic independence and contributing to the socio-economic growth of society. Covestro (India) supported 430 women impacted by COVID-19, ensuring they had the necessary assistance to participate in the program and pursue their entrepreneurial dreams.
At Covestro (India), we are committed to enhancing lives through education and livelihood opportunities that unlock the full potential of women and youth. These programs not only foster individual development but also create an environment where creativity flourishes.
Looking ahead, Covestro remains steadfast in its commitment to deepening impact through Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) and CSR initiatives. By ensuring that no one is left behind, regardless of gender or background, we strive to create a more inclusive society where all individuals can shape their futures.
As we mark International Women's Day, let us recommit ourselves to sensitivity towards diversity and inclusion issues in all spheres of work. Together, we can create a future where every individual is empowered to pursue their aspirations and contribute meaningfully to society.
