Special features of the organization

Renaissance,a group theatre organization, was founded in the year 1971.This was the time when Kolkata was very much turbulent due to political cross current.In that period Renaissance took up its journey for good theatres with about 15 enthusiastic youth. , Till then it continued.The leadership changed but the very spirit remained. , Formally Renaissance started its journey with Bengali theatre,mainly one act plays meant mainly for the Competition Theatre Festival,popular at that time. At least 45 plays were enacted at that time. Most of the plays were credited high for the production, acting and the choice of the plays. , From 1996, a change is seen in its work pattern. At that year Renaissance organized a Theatre Workshop with the theatre loving people engaged in odd jobs, like Carpenter, Electrician, etc. All of them were inhabitants of the locality. , The theatre workshop culminated in the production of a play Charandas MLA, based on the short story of famous Bengal Writer, Satinath Bhaduri. It was staged on 14 th July, 1996. As the inhabitants of the locality are Hindi speaking, so the play was produced in Hindi. It was a nice play and the actors enjoyed the play very much. And at their own initiative, they staged another production, Ramlila. It was a drama of 30 mins only, but with high skill. , Till then Renaissance is producing Hindi plays except one Bengali one act and a full length drama. , In that period Renaissance has produced, Umeed , Nabaabnama , Karnkatha, Dastak, Gardish, Kaal Kotri, Paanch Parameswar. Baal Bhawan a play of Swadesh Dipak is in the production process and will be staged in the month of February, 2010. , Besides Production and performances of the plays, Renaissance has initiated Theatre education amongst the school children of the Hindi speaking Schools in a project entitled Theatre in Education with the Financial Assistance from the Ministry of HRD. It has also taken up the challenge of Imparting Mobility through Theatre with the Differently Able, Deaf and Dumb, students. It has also started theatre education with the children of the Slums, in association with the Civic bodies of the adjacent slums, to aware on the National Integration.
