Special features of the organization

Manovikas Kendra a non-govt organization of 41 years standing is functioning for assessment, diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, special schooling, vocational training, teachers training, genetic research and rehabilitation of children with disabilities and other learning difficulties. The Institute was established in 1974 by Dr. Sharada Fatehpuria in a very humble manner. Traversing with challenges in an uneven path in the field of disability, Manovikas Kendra has now emerged as a multi-dimensional service provider for the welfare of persons with disabilities. Manovikas Kendra has been registeres as a Society under Societies Registration Act 1961 of Govt of West Bengal. The Institute has been recognized as a Special School and Vocational Training Centre for the children with special needs by Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India. , Manovikas Kendra has been functioning through its three centers: , 1. Main Centre at E.M.Bypass, Kolkata, , 2. New Alipore Centre at G Block, New Alipore , 3. Rural Centre at Bonhooghly Village, 24 Parganas (S). , Spectrum of Activities/Services: , Therapeutic interventions like Early Intervention, Multisensory, Physiotherapy, Occupational therapy, Hydrotherapy, Yoga-Dance-Music-Drill therapy. , Special Schooling for educational upliftment of challenged children up to secondary and senior secondary level under National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India. , Vocational training and rehabilitation for the skill oriented children in Weaving, Tailoring, Stitching & Embroidery, Art & Crafts and Bakery & Confectionery. , Teachers Training and Programmes under approval of RCI, MSJE, Govt. of India. Jadavpur University, Netaji Subhash Open have affiliated our Instittute for conducting B.Ed Courses and Diploma Courses in Special Education (Mental Retardation). , Centre for Rehabilitation Medicine (CRM), a state-of-the-art therapeutic clinic, for the treatment and rehabilitation of patients having orthopedic, neurological,arthritic disorders, stroke, spinal injury, cerebral palsy etc. , Biomedical & Diagnostic Research Centre, approved by the Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India as Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) for conducting research on genetic causes of mental retardation under the aegis of CSIR, DBT, DST, ICMR and Defense, Govt. of India. Several scientific papers have been published in national and international biomedical journals. , Manochetna Academic & Research Centr e (MARC) This wing provides scaffolding services to children with learning difficulty and teachers of regular schools. , Honours and Achievements , Coveted National Award 2006 in public recognition off its outstanding performance in the field of Welfare of Persons with Disabilities. , Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FICCI) Award, 1999-2000, in recognition of Institutional initiative in Training and placement of persons with disability. , Rotary India Award 2003 for the outstanding contribution to the cause of Special Education and Rehabiliton of the Mentally challenged in the country. , The Telegraph Award for Excellence in recognition for The School that Cares in August 2002. , Dr (Mrs.) Sharada Fatehpuria, Founder Director, Mnaovikas Kendra, was honoured Bharat Nirman Award 2002 for social works. , Dr (Mrs.) Sharada Fatehpuria, Founder Director, Manovikas Kendra, was honoured with Rashtriya Sevaratna Samman 2009.
