Special features of the organization

History, Mission and Vision , , IICP s mission is to work for equal rights and opportunities for persons with disabilities, particularly CP, and its vision is to facilitate an inclusive society , , Focus of IICP s work , , IICP s main focus is on the removal of barriers that prevent persons with CP and other neuro-motor disabilities from participating in all aspects of life and gaining access to human and constitutional rights. , Growth, Current Programmes and Accomplishments , Since 1974 IICP has pioneered services to cater to the needs of persons with cerebral palsy across all age groups. Starting with a special school for children with cerebral palsy in 1974 when there were none, IICP has pioneered the development of other complementary services, with a life cycle approach. , Present Services , Centre for Special Education for 165 children with CP, a NIOS offering Open Basic Education, secondary and senior secondary level courses. , Early Intervention Clinic for babies under three years of age & Family Services for children aged 3 years +) with medical clinics, emphasizing advice and guidance for home management. Approximately 900 families a year are served through these services including around 225 families with children less than two years of age. , Community Based Services , Training courses at a degree and certificate level in collaboration with Jadavpur University and Rehabilitation Council of India , Vocational Training Centre for adults with disability , Adult Day Centre for adults with severe physical and complex communication impairments and those who have associated severe to profound intellectual disability (no upper age limit) , Respite services for children (above 10 years of age) and adults with cerebral palsy (there is no upper age limit). , ANKUR IICP s Advocacy Group for adults with disability was formed with the motto, Nothing about us without us and is committed to active participation in the disability rights movement. , State Nodal Agency Centre (SNAC) of the National Trust , Jugnu Sishu Vikas Kendra an afternoon playschool and nutrition programme for 75 children from nearby slums including 10 children with disability , Roshni, National Resource Centre for Augmentative and Alternative Communication Information Communication Technology (ICT) for persons with complex communication needs , , Ongoing - Action research and assistive technology development , Ongoing - All services include hydrotherapy, multi-sensory stimulation, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and social service support. , , Each service model including Community Services and the National Resource Centre for AAC is used for training and demonstration and has been successfully replicated - in essence and philosophy but with regional and environmental variations - in 16 organisations in 11 states. IICP s input to these affiliates is solely in training and capacity building. , , Awards Received , 2004: Best Institute for Disability National Award from MSJE , 2004: Outstanding Training Centre Accreditation by RCI , 2004: Best Respite Service National Trust , 2004: State Award for Best Barrier free Environment , 2006: Best SNAC National Trust , 2009: Jeeja Ghosh and Saswati Acharya - Role Model Awards (PwD), State Welfare Department of WB , 2010: Sudha Kaul, Vice Chair awarded the Padmashree , 2011, 2012: Best Awareness Programme (Badhte Kadam) - National Trust (IICP as SNAC)
