Special features of the organization
HOPE Durgapur is catering to the needs of the differently able children. Starting with just 6 children and two special educators, the organisation has grown to near about 275 children and adults distributed over three centres. The children and adult with mental retardation, cerebral palsy, autistic and hearing deficiency from main body of the students. HOPEs goal, providing quality special education with a holistic approach, providing vocational training, helping the trainee adults to get employed, self employed, extending the services to rural population by organising CBR programme. Disseminating knowledge to the parents about preventive measures, creating awareness in the society to accept the persons with special needs. Creating a barrier free environment, persistent effort towards inclusive education. Activities- Educating children in an environment free from competition to be self reliant and self respecting. Teaching children basic and social skills, language, number work and functional academics, offering pre-vocational, vocational training to enable children to become self supporting. Councelling parents, integrating children in the mainstream, helping children to live a normal life in the family and in society. Developing creating potential of each child to holistic approach in the school curriculum with emphasis on creative as well as re-creative activities. Curricula- children between 2 to 18 years are trained individually or in groups depending on their needs. Adults above 18 years irrespective of their degree of disability are placed in the vocational training unit to prepare them for suitable employment, self employment.
