About Job Profile

Project Management/Coordination

The Chief Operations Officer will work out of our office in Pune and be responsible for ensuring all field operations at F4F run smoothly and efficiently across Maharashtra, Gujarat and Karnataka where we currently operate. The day-to-day job will involve working with field teams, sapling, irrigation, soil and compost vendors and government officials. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of finances and ensuring project budgets remain on track. You will coordinate closely with our Chartered Account and Finance teams to ensure compliance with all financial and labor laws. There is significant travel involved in this position. 

Primary Responsibilities include

 

  • Working closely with the co-founders, CEO and Board of Directors on overall leadership and strategic functions.
  • Managing a team of 70+ field employees across 3 states including hiring new members, training them, managing their day-to-day work and supporting them in capacity and career development.
  • Identifying vendors for saplings, soil, compost, irrigation materials and transport; negotiating efficient terms with them and managing vendor relationships.
  • Identifying implementation partners, onboarding them and overseeing their on-ground work
  • Supporting field teams in setting up operations in new geographies
  • Coordinating with government partners like the forest department and district administrations to implement programs
  • Creating budgets, managing finances and ensuring projects stay within budget; coordinating with our Chartered Accountants and finance teams to ensure all financial and labor compliances are followed
  • Managing field data flow, overseeing the data quality team and ensuring all relevant data is being collected, stored and analyzed properly
  • Creating progress and impact reports and coordinating with funders on a regular basis to provide updates; coordinating funder field visits
  • Attending conferences and speaking about our work at various other forums like podcasts, news interviews, etc
     

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

  • Someone who is entrepreneurial, self motivated and operates with a growth mindset.
  •  Someone who doesn’t give up easily – the work we do is full of challenges and requires a fair amount of out-of-the box and jugaad thinking.
  • Someone who functions well in an unstructured, start-up environment.
  • Someone who is excited about building a company and a team.
  • Someone who is passionate about rural development, ecological restoration and fighting climate change.
  • Someone who enjoys working with a diverse set of people, managing large teams and is collaborative.
  • Someone who is comfortable taking on all types of tasks (including the unglamorous and menial ones) and is humble, generous and kind.
  • Someone with a Bachelors Degree and good MS Office & Google Workspace skills.
  • Someone with 8 to 12 years of experience overall and with extensive experience working in rural India.
  • Someone with great communication skills who enjoys working with complex datasets and is then able to communicate the practical, the qualitative and the quantitative aspects of our work effectively.
  • Someone who is fluent in Marathi, Hindi and English; fluency in Kannada will be a plus.

 

Other Information:

 

  • The salary band for this position starts at Rs. 18 lakhs per annum. Actual salary will be decided mutually on the basis of experience, skill and fit of the candidate with our team and culture.
