Special features of the organization

APARD currently works with 6523 families and continues to strive to improve the lives of the poorest in the drought affected areas. APARD has been primarily working in the drought prone western and southern parts of Kurnool District for enhancement of livelihoods of the poor using participatory processes. , , APARD has been actively promoting and strengthening various peoples institution for different interventions. These institutions include User Groups, Self Help Groups, VOs, Water Users Associations, Sub Committees, distribution committees, seed bank committees, lift irrigation societies etc. , , In 2001, APARD took responsibility of implementing IV batch watershed programme in Devanakonda Mandal PIA under adverse situations and developed them as model watersheds in the District. This led to the adoption of APRLP approach and process in non-APRLP watersheds also. , , A seed bank with high yielding variety seeds was established in the watershed village of Karivemula with a focus for increasing productivity in rainfed areas. This has received wide accolades including Agriculture Minister. , , In addition to the above programmes, APARD has been working for women empowerment, nutrition, Social Forestry, Horticulture, Youth empowerment, Skill Development, Agree Business and Marketing, Water and Sanitation, Sustainable Agriculture, Veterinary Health camps etc. in 243 villages of Kurnool, Kadapa, Prakasam and Anantapur districts.
